Ep 8: Growing up at the Tyrrell F1 factory, interviewing a teenage Lewis Hamilton, with journalist Jeremy Hart

Jeremy Hart grew up in Surrey, just south of London, in the part of England where Formula 1 teams quietly built racing cars in sheds and lumber yards. His father’s connection to Ken Tyrrell’s sister meant that as a teenager he had access to the Tyrrell woodyard, the original home of the team that put Jackie Stewart to world championships. He would go and watch them build the cars.

That upbringing led to a career that has taken him from local radio to Sky Sports F1, from rally stages to grand prix paddocks, and through some of the most interesting corners of the sport’s history.

The story that stops the conversation is the Lewis Hamilton one. Jeremy interviewed Hamilton when he was 13 years old, already being talked about as a future Formula 1 driver. The talent was obvious even then. Hamilton went on to win seven world championships. Jeremy went on to build one of the most connected content creation and journalism agencies in the automotive and motorsport world.

There are other stories in this episode that are worth your time. Colin McRae getting behind the wheel of a Jordan F1 car at Silverstone and pulling it out of a lurid slide at Woodcote with the composure of someone who had spent his career sideways. Bernie Ecclestone ringing Jeremy on a rally stage to offer him a role at Sky with the line: you like asking awkward questions, come and do it for me. Hanging out with Emerson Fittipaldi and Damon Hill while making a film about the Lotus era drivers.

Jeremy now runs a content creation agency with a global network of journalists and creators working across the world’s biggest automotive and motorsport brands. He still lives up the road from Damon Hill.
